Which Is Better Viagra or Cialis?

If you are wondering which drug to use for erectile dysfunction, there are two popular remedies out there. These are Cialis (tadalafil) and Viagra (sildenafil). Both are phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors used for the treatment of impotence (erectile dysfunction).

What are Viagra and Cialis?

Viagra and Cialis are oral drugs that are taken for treating impotence (the inability to get or maintain an erection of the penis) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). They are in a class of drugs which are inhibitors which also includes avanafil (Stendra) and  vardenafil (Levitra, Staxyn ODT)

Erection of the penis is caused by blood rushing to the penis. Under normal conditions, foreplay leads to the production and release of nitric oxide in the penis. This then activates an enzyme, guanylate cyclase,  which results in the production of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). It is cGMP which is responsible primarily for the erection by affecting the volume of blood that the blood vessels carry through the penis.

Viagra and Cialis inhibit an enzyme called phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) which causes the destruction of cGMP. Therefore, Viagra and Cialis prevent cGMP to be destroyed and allows cGMP to persist and accumulate longer. The length of the engorgement of the penis is the effect of the length of time cGMP persists.

A Quick Comparison

There are common side effects of Cialis and Viagra that are the same. These include flushing ( redness or warmth of the neck, face, or chest), stomach pain, headaches, flu-like symptoms, muscle or back pain, memory problems, diarrhoea, low blood pressure, nausea, blurred vision, abnormal ejaculation, prolonged erections, ringing in the ears and loss of hearing.

One of the differences between the two is how long they stay in the body. Cialis enables penile hardness over a longer period than Viagra. While Viagra lasts for 4 to 6 hours only, Cialis lasts up to 18 hours.
